I'm in Blog Withdrawal.

I feel like I haven't blogged in so long! Anyway, this weekend, the Hogs played North Texas and killed them 66 to 7. It was great. I told my friends that if we were up 50 to 0 at halftime, we could leave. The score was 45 to 7. We left after the band played. They did so much better. Pregame, not so much. My vote is to re-institute pregame to all its previous glory! The halftime show was dedicated to Dr. Eldon Janzen, who directed the band until 1994. They did one of his favorite shows, and I must say, although we had played one of the songs in my tenure in band, it was ten times better than last week. I even got a great shot of the Go Hogs spell out with my phone!

Do you remember?

In the light of the bad times the Hogs are suffering now, let's relive some of the glory days. I can remember vividly watching the 1994 NCAA Basketball Championship. I was a senior in high school, about to graduate, and headed to the University of Arkansas in the fall. I remember sitting with my hands over my eyes because I couldn't stand to watch what would happen. Too bad we don't have any of these guys playing for us again!

Smells Like New Car...

I started my new job today. It's not the Walton College, but I really like the people I work with. Linda, my supervisor, is sweet as can be. Virginia, the accountant, fits the accountant mold to a tee. And Dr. Verma, the department head, is super nice and extremely busy.

I didn't have to do to much today. But I did notice the way people turned up their noses when they found out I used to work in the Walton College. Apparently, anyone who works in the WCOB is rich and wants nothing to do with the rest of the University community. At least that was the feeling I received from some of the people I spoke with. Wow, I never realized the hatred went that deep. Anyway, I am getting a new computer that is being specially order for me, with two monitors and cordless everything! I even got to choose what software I wanted on it. Cool!

I Am Not A Happy Camper

The Hogs played Kentucky today in the beautiful city of Fayetteville. Well, we played three and a half quarters. The Hogs lost miserably. We had led the entire game, and then basically handed the game to Kentucky in the last five minutes of the fourth quarter. I have been an avid supporter of Houston Nutt in the past, but those days are over. There is no reason for us to have put up that many yards of offense and loose. NO REASON! Check out more stats on the game here.

I really hate to say it, but I think Nutt's days as head coach are numbered, especially with a new athletic director stepping onto the scene. Here are a couple of Hog Blogs I read. Check them out if you get a chance.

Razorback Expats

And then to top it off, the band sucked. I have never heard worse playing on the field from a college marching band. Pathetic. And if Mr. Gunter doesn't do something about the debacle pre-game has become, the band will loose a lot of its future supporters. I know, breathe, it's just band, right?

So it's not a teaching job and it really isn't exactly what I want to do for the rest of my life, but I am now employed, making money, and covered by insurance! YEAH!

I am now the Administrative Secretary for the Biological and Agricultural Sciences Department for the College of Engineering and the Bumpers College. Check out what they do here. I know I have some research to do since I have no idea what this program entails. Hopefully they'll understand a blonde moment or two.

Pet Peeve Update

So, here's the list so far:

1. Butt Heat
2. Underwear showing
3. Excessive/Unnecessary Speeding
4. Not using a turn signal

For the previous posts on these topics click here and here.

And, here's the newest addition:

5. Unwanted We-Podding
What is this you may ask? It's playing music so loud on your personal music player (i.e. iPod, MP3 player, etc.) that, although lodged into your ears, everyone around you can hear perfectly what you are listening to through your impossibly tiny ear buds. There's just no reason for your music to be that loud. If YOU can't hear it, I'm sure Beltone would be happy to schedule an appointment for your hearing check. TURN IT DOWN!

Although, after reading the top 10 signs of hearing loss and realizing I fall into a couple of those categories, maybe I should take my own advice...

What a Beautiful World.

I took this picture on my way back from Batesville yesterday. This spot is about two miles east of Harrison. The sunset was gorgeous, and there were several spots I really wanted to stop and capture with my camera. I took this right as the sun hit the tops of the hills. It was beautiful.

Bitter, Party of One Million

Well, the Hogs lost on Saturday. I don't know if they are going to allow me to use real utensils for a while or give me back the laces for my shoes. I'll be alright. This game really made me feel as bad as when we lost to Tennessee in '98. Heartbreaking.

On another note, I got a call today for an interview for a job on campus. This could be good. I have several options coming open, so hopefully I will not have to move any time soon. That's a relief! I hate moving. I would almost be willing to call my landlord and tell him to keep everything. That's how much I hate moving!

Can I be a Home Room Mom without children?

Rachel called me the other night and asked if I'd be willing to come up to Spring Hill and help her out a little since she was getting behind on some paperwork. I said sure, since all I'd be loosing was a few hours of the extra sleep I'm getting since being unemployed. It was so much fun. I forgot home much that school feels like home to me. When I walked in and Mel and Rachel were sitting at their desks, it just felt so right! Anyway, I'm meeting with the substitute coordinator in the morning to get everything finalized to begin my tenure of teaching (albeit as a sub) in the Bentonville School District.

I crack myself up sometimes...

I have some downstairs neighbors that, let's say, let their passions run away with them... a lot. Well, this afternoon, I was kind of fed up with it a little, since this is something they do sometimes three or four times a day, and she's a screamer on top of it. So, when I could hear the events unfolding downstairs and noticed that the pictures on my walls were, shall we say, moving to a steady beat, I turned on some music... rather loud music, mind you. And what song was I playing you ask? How about Miserable by Lit. I think I got my point across when I heard the screamer say she could hear the music and they stopped quite suddenly. Yea! It worked! Maybe they'll get the point...

Big Brother Time

I haven't mentioned at all one of my favorite summer past times: CBS's Big Brother. I started watching this show completely by accident a few years ago, and actually got my friends addicted to it too! Anyway, this clip is of one of the most annoying people on the face of the earth, and one of the reasons I vow every year to not watch the show because of people like this. I dedicate this clip to Jamie, Rachel, and Kim, my Big Brother partners in crime!

A+ for effort?

Today, I took the fourth Praxis II test that the state of Arkansas requires for certification. I really hate these tests. This test consisted of concepts and processes for teaching in the classroom. Luckily it was related to music. I even finished 15 minutes before the time was up; much better than last time when I didn't finish four questions!

I also got the scores back today from the last group of tests I took in August. That's a lot of Praxis in one day. Some of you will remember that I complained thoroughly about taking the tests last time, so I won't bore you again. Anyway, I passed all three tests! Even the one I didn't finish! WHOO HOO!

Yeah TV!

Ahhh, the sweet sound of nonsensical ramblings from the TV are a most wonderful sound! I always love it when a new tenant moves into the apartment complex and tries to get free cable. For some reason, every time this happens, my satellite gets unplugged and I have to pay for someone to come out here to fix it. Urgh!

Weekend Update

This last weekend was a blast. I don't think I've had such a great time with all my friends in a long time. Friday night, we all piled into two cars and headed to the 112 Drive-In. It was great: watching some movies, eating some hot dogs and all other kinds of junk food, and just hanging out.

Saturday, we all met at Jim and Emily's before the game for some amazing ribs, Asian slaw, potato salad, and other goodies. After gorging ourselves and napping for a little bit, we all piled into Erin's Honda and headed to the game. Well, technically, we headed to the game in two cars, but all seven of us crammed into the Honda for a short lived trip up Garland Avenue. THANK YOU ERIN! The game was great. What's not to like? Football, screaming fans, and 70,000 people all doing the Hog Call at the same time. I love it! The game was alright. I was expecting more, considering all the hype about the team this year, but it was great to have "Game week in the Ozarks, baby!" I was a little disappointed by a couple of things, but I'll save that for another post.

Sunday after church, Erin, Evan, Jamie, Rachel, and I all piled (notice all the piling?) into the X-Terra and headed to Table Rock Lake for a fun Labor Day afternoon. Rachel's ex-brother-in-law David has a cabin (I think) and an amazing boat and dock there. It was so much fun. David took us to an island and met up with some other people for a great cookout. We then headed to another site for some beautiful fireworks. It was so pretty, sitting in a boat watching the fireworks. Ahhh...

Monday, I really didn't do anything. Since my DishNetwork is still not working (completely bitter statement) and won't be fixed until tomorrow, I decided to reduce my clutter. I rearranged some things in my house, cleaned a few things, and did my laundry. I love having all my housework finished!

This week, I hope to hear from some offices for an interview or two. I am heading to Bentonville tomorrow afternoon to fill out all the paperwork to begin subbing. I am not freaking out yet, since I'm now unemployed, but I know I have to really start searching for something. If you hear of any jobs that I could do, let me know!
